The Playstation 4 is the “best price to play", as said by its own website, and marks Sony’s entrance into the either generation of video game consoles.
Description:
Sony is set to release their next-generation gaming console, the PlayStation 4 (PS4), on November 15, 2013. With pressure coming from Microsoft and their new gaming console, the Xbox One, Sony has released some of the new features from the PS4 and what separates it from their last generation console, the PlayStation 3. Maybe the most significant feature is the Gaikai cloud technology. This cloud gaming service was acquired by Sony last year. The CEO of Gaikai, David Perry, discussed how he believes the cloud technology will change the “back end” of the PS4 experience.
Gaikai presents an opportunity to allow PS4 users a trial-based way of playing video games before purchasing a game by streaming. There is also hope for the cloud device to improve the PS4 spectating experience for users. It will allow users to one-button broadcast their game progress via Share. The cloud technology will also work with Facebook and Ustream. It seems that the Gaikai service will not be available when the PS4 comes out, but it is expected in 2014.
There are many other upgrades or features that come with PS4 as well. This includes the improvement of the controller as the PS4 will have the DualShock 4 instead of the DualShock 3. Online multiplayer gamers must now sign up with PlayStation Plus but do not need it for certain applications on the system such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. The hardware has been upgraded as well. There is now 500GB hard drive for storage, three USB 3.0 ports, and many other significant improvements. Sony and PS4 is also working on widening their use of the PlayStation support via tablets, smartphones, etc. to allow users to use these as second screens for the PS4.
Applications:
Playstation 4 camera is upgraded to shoot video in 3D as well as high quality. The home entertainment system that includes the new Playstation 4 will now have the capacity to function as a tool of communication via Skype or other live chat services.
The new "Gaikai" technology housed in the Playstation 4 provides a network cloud that allows all games and movies to not only be previewed, but purchased. This new technology has not only cut loading and downloading time significantly, but also provides the ability to stream movies for the first time on Playstation 4.
New Applications:
Ultra-fast customized processors and 8GB of high-performance unified system memory, the PS4™
“The PlayStation® App” will enable iPhone, iPad, and Android™ based smartphones and tablets to become second screens for the PS4™ system.
The new DUALSHOCK®4 wireless controller features even greater sense of control, while the capacitive touch pad opens up endless potential for new gameplay possibilities.
Remote Play on the PS4™ system fully unlocks the PlayStation®Vita system’s potential, gamers will be able to play a range of PS4™ titles on the beautiful 5-inch display over Wi-Fi access points in a local area network.
